People & ideas at Deutsche Börse
Release date: 22 Apr 2021
In our “Settled in” series, our colleagues who have decided to start their careers at Deutsche Börse Group share their journeys with us. Amira works in the Community Management Frankfurt team within Cash Market at Deutsche Börse Group and tells us how she, as an Event & Community Manager, organises events such as IPO and Bell Ringing ceremonies in the well-known trading hall.
What subject did you study and why did you decide to start your career at Deutsche Börse?
I completed a dual bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on trade fair, congress, and event management in Mannheim. Designing, planning and executing events and developing the appropriate marketing activities – that's what I particularly loved. So, it was soon very clear to me which job profile I wanted to consider. I also knew that I wanted this job to be in a company that operates in a dynamic market environment and offers the opportunity to constantly develop oneself. Therefore, the job advertisement for the Community Management Frankfurt team at Deutsche Börse Group appealed to me straight away. After all, who is not familiar with the impressive scenes of the stock exchange bell being rung from the trading floor by companies going public? The pictures of these IPO ceremonies go around the world. That fascinated me very much and so I seized this opportunity.
You work as an Event & Community Manager at Deutsche Börse, primarily in the well-known stock exchange building in downtown Frankfurt – what exactly are your tasks?
My tasks are very diverse. I manage floor events such as the IPO and Opening Bell ceremonies, i.e. the ringing of the stock exchange bell on special occasions. Furthermore, I regularly organise series of events that offer the Frankfurt financial centre a platform for business and social exchange.
Currently, I also provide support on the technical side for virtual event formats. These have increased in recent months. On the one hand, the onset of the Corona pandemic meant that we had to design a comprehensive safety and hygiene concept for parquet events. On the other hand, we also greatly expanded our virtual solutions. Even the ringing of the stock exchange bell was now available virtually in a live stream, as could be seen at the IPOs of Vantage Towers and Nagarro. A true team effort by various colleagues from many areas, which we were only able to accomplish together in such a short time.
In addition, my team and I are involved in the reconstruction of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange – we are also working on this together with many other internal colleagues and subcontractors. In the first construction phase, we completed the new visitor center and the two-story Deutsche Börse X-Lounge. Unfortunately, we had to postpone the grand opening due to Covid-19 last year. The Deutsche Börse Conference Center is now being built in the second construction phase. It's great that I've been able to work here from the very beginning on how we can tailor events to our customers as individually as possible.
What do you particularly like about your job?
What I like most about my job is that my responsibilities are very diverse and there are always new challenges that I have to master. The more I learn, the more interested I become in the financial sector, especially in the stock market itself. Knowledge that I can put to good use in discussions and presentations with our customers – companies from very different industries.
In my work, I am always supported by my great colleagues and can count on things being tackled together. This also enabled me to quickly develop new contacts within the company, which helped me to familiarize myself with new topics and issues. At Deutsche Börse, I get the opportunity to develop myself as a person and business-wise and learn something new every day.
What advice would you give to other young professionals who are interested in joining Deutsche Börse?
Don't be afraid of new tasks and accept great projects and challenges with confidence. At Deutsche Börse you will meet people with different backgrounds and from different countries – actively seek contact with other colleagues in the company. This will give you the chance to acquire expertise beyond your own area of responsibility. In this way, you will quickly become better acquainted with the connections and the product portfolio of Deutsche Börse Group.
